Modified Cellulose Acetate (Ecofloc)
Our biodegradable modified cellulose acetate, Ecofloc, has the strength and durability of normal cellulose acetate but is completely biodegradable in water at ambient temperature.
With the increasing reliance on plastics of all sectors, making a biodegradable and eco-friendly plastic polymer is a huge step.
Many plastics end up as waste in the water, but Ecofloc cellulose acetate degrades in water.
Due to its biodegradability, this material has been certified to ISO:14851. This means that it has been found to be carbon balanced and completely biodegradable in aqueous aerobic conditions.
Cellulose acetate is often used in applications which require high moisture absorbency, but it can also be molded into solid plastic parts, such as tool handles, cast into photography film, or used in food wrapping.
Cellulose acetate shares many similarities with cellulose, rayon, and polyester. In fact, it is often confused with rayon.
Milled modified cellulose acetate (Ecofloc) fibre
Milled Ecofloc fibres are used in many applications due to its strength and absorbency. It is found in nappies and surgical products, as well as industrial filters, papers, and ink reservoirs.
Ecofloc cellulose acetate is also a very breathable material, making it a good choice for fabrics and clothing. Its shiny and smooth texture makes it a good synthetic alternative to silk, as well as adding a high lustre quality when mixed with other materials.
Cellulose acetate flock can be used to add strength to a product before it dries or cures, and, like other cellulose fibres, can be used to prevent and repair the formation of cracks.
We offer Ecofloc cellulose acetate flock in the following sizes:
- < 500 microns
