Goonvean Fibres provides a range of precision short cut fibres and flocks for use in adhesives, epoxy resins and sealants. These materials have a number of advantages such as reinforcement, fire resistance, flexibility and added strength.

Tyre Sealants

Precision cut Polyester fibre is a very strong and stable manmade fibre that is widely used in many industries. Polyester is resistant to stretching and shrinking and perhaps more importantly for industrial applications it is resistant to abrasion and acid degradation. Polyester has a relatively high specific gravity, leading to it dispersing well in water and a relatively high melting point making it a good all round choice for a variety of applications. The short cut 3.3 decitex grade is widely used in the manufacture of lead oxide paste with cut lengths 1.6mm and 3mm being most common.

Short cut aramid fibres and flocks are widely used as reinforcement and process aids (pre-form production) in friction products where high temperature and wear resistance are important. Aramid fibres are also used by gasket and seal manufacturers for use in aggressive environments.

Addition of fibre depends on gap to be covered and burn time requirement e.g. 5% for 30 minutes and 10% for 60 minutes depending on the other materials in close proximity i.e. untreated wooden doors will be breached faster than sealed frames etc

Viscose Rayon is a manufactured regenerated cellulose fibre. As it is produced from naturally occurring polymers, it is neither a truly synthetic fibre nor a natural fibre; it is a semi-synthetic or artificial fibre. It usually has a high lustre quality giving it a bright sheen.

As the material is 100% biodegradable it is also globally accepted for use in environmentally friendly applications. Goonvean Fibres is able to offer a No-Shock® bicomponent product from Ascend Performance Materials. A short cut nylon 6.6 and carbon fibre bicomponent, this antistatic material is an inherent part of the fibre and not a treatment or post-application therefore it lasts as long as the fibre or fabric. It has found applications in anti - static floor coverings.

Wool is a natural fibre that has been used in textile manufacure for thousands of years. It has good dye affinity and is therefore widely used in the manufacture of high quality carpets. It is commonly used in insulation and felting applications and ground wool can be chemically treated to release natural Keratin for use in the manufacture of cosmetics and personal care.

Fibres for Belts, Hoses & Anti - Vibration Mountings

Goonvean Fibres produces precision short cut fibers and fibre flocks in a variety of natural and synthetic fibres such as cotton, viscose rayon, nylon, polyester and aramids. These fibres are used to provide a flexible reinforcement for a range of rubber compounds used in the manufacture of transmission belts, seals, hoses and anti-vibration mountings. Our recently conducted case study focussed on quantifying the benefits of using our fibres in a rubber formulation. 5% of Goonvean Fibres PE60 ground polyester was added to a styrene butadiene rubber formulation and the physical properties measured. Addition of fibres resulted in an 11% increase in scorch time, 10% improvement in tear strength and a 7% increase in hardness. Goonvean Fibres offers a comprehensive range of neutral and coloured precision or short cut fibres and flocks. Polyester is resistant to stretching and shrinking and perhaps more importantly for industrial applications it is resistant to abrasion and acid degradation. Polyester has a relatively high specific gravity, leading to it dispersing well in water and a relatively high melting point making it a good all round choice for a variety of applications. The short cut 3.3 decitex grade is widely used in the manufacture of lead oxide paste with cut lengths 1.6mm and 3mm being most common.
