Tyre sealants

Adhesives and Sealants

Fibres for Adhesives & Sealants

Goonvean Fibres provides a range of short cut fibres and flocks for use in adhesives, epoxy resins and sealants. These materials have a number of advantages such as reinforcement, fire resistance, flexibility and added strength.

Adhesives

Roofing and Flooring

AdhesivesGoonvean Fibres offers a variety of short cut fibre types that are used in waterproofing adhesives and sealants. The end uses include roof coatings, damp proofing and sub floor adhesives. The main function of these fibres is to allow flexibility and to add strength.

Goonvean Fibres offers a range of micronised natural and synthetic powders. Characterised by their controlled particle sizes, they are specifically designed for paint, surface coatings, grouts and epoxy putty to ensure a uniform texture on the finished product.

Goonvean Fibres offers a range of polyethylene powders that are commonly used in epoxy resins, varnishes and paints. The exact powder micron size will be determined by the end use e.g. lower micron powders are used in varnishes, mid range in epoxy resins and high micron size in paints.

Natural fibres and fibre flocks such as cotton, hemp and other cellulosic-based fibres are increasingly used to reinforce products in a growing number of applications. Many global companies looking for less reliance on oil based synthetic flocks where precision cut lengths are less critical are investigating the use of an environmentally acceptable alternative.

Polyester fibre is a very strong and stable manmade fibre that is widely used in many industries. It is resistant to stretching and shrinking and perhaps more importantly for industrial applications it is abrasion and chemical resistant (to most chemicals). The short cut 3.3 decitex grade is widely used in the manufacture of lead oxide paste with cut lengths 1.6mm and 3mm being most common.

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) is a synthetic resin prepared by the polymerisation of acrylonitrile. A member of the important family of acrylic resins, it is a hard, rigid thermoplastic material that is resistant to most solvents and chemicals, slow to burn, and of low permeability to gases. PAN fibre is therefore used in many different applications where these attributes are specified.

Goonvean Fibres recommends modacrylic fibre for applications where a combination of softness, strength, resilience, and dimension stabilty are demanded. Modacrylic fibres can be easily dyed, show good press and shape retention, and are quick to dry. They have outstanding resistance to chemicals and solvents.

Polyacrylonitrile fibres are used as reinforcement in a variety of applications including paints, roof and floor water proof coatings, adhesives and sealants. These short cut fibres are ideal for crack bridging and covering uneven surfaces.

Goonvean Fibres offers a short cut 17 decitex precision cut fibre that is used in applications where fibre strength and resiliance are required. As the material is resistant to high temperature and does not burn it is commonly used as an intumescent material in adhesives, resins and paints.

Mastic Sealants

Mastic Sealants

Mastic SealantsMany projects require some type of sealant to join one surface to another, or protect the area to which it is applied. Mastic sealant is good for this application, as it can bend and flex while maintaining a durable bond for years. It often is used in construction projects, such as connecting windows to structures, sealing the area around bathtubs and filling in cracks in various types of masonry. Short cut fibres, flocks and powders are used as flexible reinforcement in many mastic sealant formulations.

Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic polymer used in a wide variety of applications including packaging, textiles and automotive components. It is rugged and unusually resistant to many chemical solvents, bases and acids making it an ideal material for use in Lead Acid Batteries and concrete.

Nylon is a generic designation for a family of synthetic polymers known as polyamides. Nylon is one of the most commonly used polymers and has found applications in everything from tooth brushes to textile manufacture. The most common grades used in industrial reinforcement are Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6

Sealing Compounds

Leak Repair Systems

Sealing CompoundsFor aggressive environments where major maintenance downtime is not immediately possible, e.g chemical transfer pipework, sealing compounds containing short cut aramid and acrylonitrile fibres provide a sealing compound that will withstand extremely high temperatures and levels of abrasion and corrosion.

Short cut aramid fibres and flocks are widely used as reinforcement and process aids (pre-form production) in friction products where high temperature and wear resistance are important. Aramid fibres are also used by gasket and seal manufacturers for use in aggressive environments.

Acrylic fibre flock is a polyacrylonitrile fibre used as an alternative to asbestos for the manufacture of brake pads and clutch plates. The fire resistant properties of the material also make it an ideal choice in intumescent applications such as paints and sealants.

Tyre Sealants

Tyre Sealants

Tyre SealantsFibres and powders are widely used in the manufacture of tyre puncture sealants. Puncture sealant provides a permanent repair that can last the legal lifetime of the tyre and it is suitable for use with any pneumatic tyre in almost any environment.

Acrylic fibre flock is used in fire resistant paints for safety reasons and improved coverage. Under high temperatures the fibre expands into a foam like material without burning, this expanded foam bridges gaps and cracks that resist the spread of fire and also helps to prevent smoke transfer. Addition of fibre depends on gap to be covered and burn time requirement e.g. 5% for 30 minutes and 10% for 60 minutes depending on the other materials in close proximity i.e. untreated wooden doors will be breached faster than sealed frames etc

Viscose Rayon is a manufactured regenerated cellulose fibre. As it is produced from naturally occurring polymers, it is neither a truly synthetic fibre nor a natural fibre; it is a semi-synthetic or artificial fibre. It usually has a high lustre quality giving it a bright sheen.

Viscose rayon is most commonly used in the production of standard paper and speciality papers. As the material is 100% biodegradable it is also globally accepted for use in environmentally friendly applications. It has been used in oil well drilling operations to replace non-biodegradable synthetic fibres.
